Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA)

The Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act, or WIOA, is legislation that became active on July 1, 2015. Workforce boards provide services to assist unemployed or underemployed adults who may benefit from services offered through WIOA. WIOA places emphasis on skills development that matches the needs of employers, moving individuals through career pathways into demand occupations and continued access to services for job seekers. WIOA offers opportunities for job seekers to develop career plans that provide for sustainability and prosperity in the emerging economy.
