North Carolina Strategic Transportation Corridors

Regional Meeting

The N.C. Department of Transportation is committed to helping counties, cities and towns across the state enhance their transportation networks to improve traffic flow, connect communities and support economic development. To help achieve these objectives, the N.C. Department of Transportation has been studying the level of mobility each mode of transportation currently provides and determining the investments needed to take that mode to the next mobility level to better serve citizens. The result is identifying a network of Strategic Transportation Corridors that serves the state’s high-level economic development and travel needs and dividing those corridors into corridors of statewide and regional strategic significance. This effort is separate from the department’s implementation of the Strategic Transportation Investments (STI) legislation and the project prioritization process.

NCDOT will conduct a series of meetings across the state in May to brief key stakeholders about the work NCDOT has done and gather comments on it. Key stakeholders include Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), Rural Planning Organizations (RPOs) and Councils of Governments (COGs); transportation facilities and providers (such as transit systems and airports); colleges and universities; railroads; port interests; and economic development and tourism agencies. Statewide organizations, such as the N.C. Association of County Officials, the N.C. League of Municipalities and the Metro Mayors Association, as well as the State Chamber of Commerce also will send notices to their members.

You are welcome to attend any of the meetings. Please let us know if you will come, so we may plan appropriately. Send an email to Judy.Meyer@publicinformationassociates.com or leave her a message at 214-495-0403 and let her know which meeting(s) you plan to attend. Please contact Judy no later than May 5, if sight- or hearing-impaired services or language interpretation will be needed.
