Kernersville, North Carolina, April 17, 2019 – Food industry, government and community leaders joined forces to produce the Piedmont Triad’s first regional food council. The Piedmont Triad Regional Food Council envisions communities united for an inclusive, healthy and resilient local food economy. The council will convene for the first time on April 29 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.    

Initially, the council will facilitate conversations with community leaders and partners around the opportunities to build a stronger food economy. The Piedmont Triad Regional Food Council is a community-led food council that provides structure for collaboration and collective action across the Piedmont Triad foodshed.

In order to demonstrate the effects of an inclusive, healthy and resilient food system, the council will guide the scope and framework for a Regional Food System Assessment. Data gathered from this assessment will determine the return on investment of an ideal food system. The Regional Food System Assessment will be a comprehensive analysis concentrated on building equity for the 12 county Piedmont Triad, which will include data on local food production, infrastructure and markets, as well as community health and development.
